Any thoughts on tricks that aim to amortize the aba counter? Worst case where the same node gets constantly used is 16 bits of version counter. Best case is 16 + log(#nodes). I consider 32 bit version counters not safe any more. You'd probably want to use some form of PDR/version hybrid scheme.
